214,000 iPhone Viewing App Downloads in 48 hours

The Ustream Viewing Application hit the App Store on the night before
the Presidential Inauguration and by the next morning, iPhone and iPod
Touch owners downloaded it in record numbers.  On day one, the Viewing Application
soared to the #1 spot on Apple’s Entertainment section and the #4 spot among all of the thousands of free applications in the App Store with more than 214,000 downloads … and this all happened
in less than 48 hours.

The enthusiasm for the Inauguration of President Barack Obama translated
into a record-breaking day for live streams on Ustream – both online and
on mobile.  We received tremendous feedback from the iPhone community
about watching this historic event:

I watched on Ustream (computer, not iPhone), and not only was it smooth, but it was actually a split second ahead of my television.” – James

I watched on my iPhone, and was amazed at how good it looked!” – Megan

I watched Ustream on my iPhone from Paris, no problem, best stream from all of ‘em.” – Sammy

Thanks again for making us #1 in the App Store. Stay tuned for updates on the next version.

Record On Ustream – A Day To Remember

Today proved to be historic not only for the inauguration of our 44th president, but also because it was an amazing day for Ustream!

It was the biggest day Ustream has seen since the Election on Nov. 4, surpassing our record of one million streams for one event. What’s more, Ustream had hundreds of separate inauguration-related streams. Our streams were conversational and niche, with hosted professional streams as well as user-generated broadcasts.  We had our personal best today, so why not brag alittle?

Some highlights:

– Ustream powered more than an estimated 3.8 million streams today
– 400,000 concurrent people were watching Inauguration events at any given moment during the speech and swearing in.

– Tens of thousands watched live on the iPhone

If you watched a Ustream live stream today, please vote for us in this poll!

Thousands of people watched the inauguration from our newly-released viewing app. You can download it here:

Here are a few photos of Ustreamers watching today’s events unfold. Enjoy!

History: Inauguration LIVE on Ustream

Over the last two years, Ustream has had the privilege to work closely with President Elect Obama’s campaign.  We stream speeches, we streamed townhalls, and we even had the honor to stream his victory speech.

History will be made Jan 20th, and you will all be able to watch this LIVE on Ustream.   As always, our interactive chat will be there to make this experience more of a social experience.

If you are not going to fight the traffic in DC and the pat downs from the secret service, then watch the inauguration of fellow Ustreamer, President Barack Obama, with me.
