Kāmau a Ea is a series of governance summits aimed at bringing together leaders of Hawaiian self-governance initiatives. visioning session for the purpose of educating and informing OHA, Hawaiʻi communities, and the lāhui about ongoing Hawaiian governance and self-determination initiatives.

The name of the series, Kāmau a Ea, holds significant meaning. First, Ea is translated here as “life” but also means sovereignty, rule, and independence as embodied in the words that Kauikeaouli uttered on Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea, Restoration Day and that has become our state motto: Ua mau ke ea o ka ʻāina i ka pono. Second, Kāmau means “to keep on, continue, persevere, last, add a little more” and speaks to the efforts of those who have endeavored and persevered since 1893 to restore Ea to Hawaiians.
